The Marshall County Education Association is offering a $1,000 scholarship for college juniors and seniors who are majoring in education and plan to teach. Applicant must be a graduate of one of Marshall County's high schools. Applications are available at the high school guidance offices and the Marshall County Memorial Library. Deadline: May 1.

LIHEAP funds are still available for low-income families who need help with energy costs. Apply between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the South Central Human Resource Agency, 1572 Old Columbia Hwy, Lewisburg; phone 359-6393. These funds are not available to anyone who has received an energy or crisis payment since July 2010.

Gently used children's clothing, toys and accessories will be available from the Angel's Closet at Heaven Sent Children Inc., 307 N. Walnut St, Murfreesboro, twice a month. Mowing will begin March 25 at Sunset Park Cemetery. It is requested that all figurines and flowers (except for those in vases) be removed before mowing begins. Those not removed will be discarded. Call 359-2521 if you have any questions.

Chapel Hill Park & Recreation will be hosting the 2011 Miss Chapel Hill Pageant on Saturday, March 26. Eagleville School Band Booster Association will hold a Chitlin and BBQ Dinner at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 2, in the school cafeteria. Chitlin and BBQ plates will include slaw, white beans, bread, and coffee/tea. A variety of homemade desserts will be available. All proceeds benefit the school band program.

There will be a free audiovisual program about common birds of this area at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Inn at Henry Horton State Park, presented by Joe LaFleur, author a new DVD called "Better Birdwatching in Kentucky and Tennessee." The program will help you identify birds by sight and sound and will also review preferred habitats of each species. At 3:30 p.m. LaFleur will lead a free guided bird walk, with hands-on identification of migrant and breeding birds in habitats like river, woodland and fields. Beginners are welcome.
