Marshall County veterinarians will offer rabies vaccinations at the reduced rate of $8 for the month of April. Tennessee law requires all cats and dogs three months of age and older to be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian. There have already been three cases of rabies confirmed in Marshall County this year.

The Marshall County Education Association is offering a $1,000 scholarship for college juniors and seniors who are majoring in education and plan to teach. Applicant must be a graduate of one of Marshall County's high schools. Applications are available at the high school guidance offices and the Marshall County Memorial Library. Deadline: May 1.

LIHEAP funds are still available for low-income families who need help with energy costs. Apply between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the South Central Human Resource Agency, 1572 Old Columbia Hwy, Lewisburg; phone 359-6393. These funds are not available to anyone who has received an energy or crisis payment since July 2010.

May 1 is the deadline to sign up for the Senior Citizens day trip to Fontanel Mansion and Farm on June 9. Visit the Senior Center office at 230 College St, Lewisburg, to sign up and get details.

The Town of Chapel Hill Board of Mayor and Aldermen will hold a work session at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at the Town Hall, 2202 Unionville Road.

The Town of Cornersville will hold its regular meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at City Hall. This meeting is open to the public and all citizens are welcome to attend.

Marshall County Democrats will hold their biennial County Reorganization and County Convention at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in the Community Room at First National Bank, Lewisburg. This meeting will result in newly elected or re-elected Democratic Party Officers who will lead the party through the 2012 election cycle. Any Democrats are welcome to join the gathering for fellowship, planning and official business with new and old members alike.

The Marshall County Soil Conservation District will hold a Flower Exchange from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 8, at the USDA Service Center, 1171 Nashville Hwy, Lewisburg. Liggett Street Church of God, Lewisburg, will hold a Yard Sale and Bake Sale on Saturday, April 9, beginning at 7 a.m. There will be clothing for all sizes and all ages.

There will be a free audiovisual program about common birds of this area at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Inn at Henry Horton State Park, presented by Joe LaFleur, author a new DVD called "Better Birdwatching in Kentucky and Tennessee." The program will help you identify birds by sight and sound and will also review preferred habitats of each species. At 3:30 p.m. LaFleur will lead a free guided bird walk, with hands-on identification of migrant and breeding birds in habitats like river, woodland and fields. Beginners are welcome.
