Obituary: Lucy June Nickerson
Lucy June Nickerson, 86, of Lewisburg, went home to be with the Lord Sunday evening, April 17, 2011, at NHC Lewisburg. She was born in Sedgewickville, Mo., on March 16, 1925, a daughter of the late Harold Blaylock and Lula Adeline Mellulis.
Miss Lucy was a bartender for 35 years. She was also a private business owner. She also worked well with her hands. She enjoyed working with wood, crocheting, sewing, and quilting. She was a green-thumb gardener and an animal lover. She especially loved raising her Golden Retriever puppies. Miss Lucy helped raise many children during her golden years. She enjoyed being with family and friends plus watching her grandchildren grow up. She was their number one fan and was thrilled when they played sports and raced their stock cars. She herself enjoyed all sorts of sports. In high school, she played volleyball and basketball. She also wore the crown as queen of her class.
Mrs. Nickerson is survived by her son, Dennis (Julie) Stephan of Lawrenceville, Ga.; three daughters, Gail Stephan of Hohenwald, Robin (Marshall) Chunn of Lewisburg, and LouAnn (Dean) Schmidt of Chapel Hill; three brothers, Thomas Rudolph (Agnes) Blaylock, Ted Blaylock, and Gene Blaylock; her sister, Bonnie Papp; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Blaylock; her five grandchildren, Denise (Mike) Smith, John Webb, Dustin Stephan, Bryce Stephan and Ashley (Rob) McBride; her four great-grandchildren, Skyler, Troy, Sierra and Ezra; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Candy Renee, and two brothers, Elliott Rayfield Blaylock and Harold George Blaylock.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday, April 21, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Don McMurry officiating.
