The child flown by helicopter ambulance from a field near the Franklin Highway bridge over the Duck River on Thursday subsequently died last week.
Landon Slaughter, 4, of Columbia, son of Lana Slaughter, 24, who was also injured in the two-car crash, had been taken by Air Evac helicopter ambulance to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Bobby Clift investigated the crash, explaining that Thursday morning he didn't have full names of the people involved in the crash. The Daily Herald of Columbia had the full names on Sunday and reported that the boy died.
Slaughter was driving a Honda south at about 7:40 a.m. Friday when Brandon Woods, 28, also of Columbia, was driving north in an Oldsmobile. He drove into the southbound lane and then swerved back, Clift said. Slaughter saw the Oldsmobile and tried to avoid him by going into his lane, but because he'd returned to that lane, they crashed.
