The second major multi-night walking horse show of the season, the 41st Annual Spring Fun Show, begins Thursday night and runs through Saturday.
The Spring Fun Show is always on the weekend of Memorial Day. The Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration is the sponsoring organization for this event.
There are 51 classes with a total purse of over $23,000 plus ribbons and trophies. With those 51 classes, there are 10 Riders' Cup classes for professional trainers to accumulate points for end-of-year awards.
After a two-year absence, the show will once again be held in the Calsonic Arena on the historic grounds of The Celebration. It was held in the outdoor arena for the past two years.
Judging the 41st annual show will be Nathan Clark of Arab, Ala., Brock Tillman and Joel Weaver both of Shelbyville. Clark previously judged Spring Fun Show in 2005 and has also judged The Celebration in 2008 and 2010. Weaver previously judged the Spring Fun Show in 2004. Tillman will be the rookie of the panel of judges, judging his first Celebration-sponsored event.
The Spring Fun Show came into being in 1970 following the demise of two one-night shows, one in Lewisburg and the other in Shelbyville. The Lewisburg show was the Spring Festival on Friday night and the Shelbyville P.T.A. show was on Saturday night.
Many champions at the Spring Fun Show have gone on to become World and World Grand Champions in late August at the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration. The 2011 show will follow the rules and regulations of SHOW, Inc., and the TWHNC.
The show begins each night at 6 p.m. For more information on tickets, entries and general information, visit The Celebration online at www.twhnc.com.
