Obituary: Nellie Buford Mealer Cawthon

Nellie Buford Mealer Cawthon, 80, of Nashville, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at her residence following an extended illness.

A native of Marshall County, she was a daughter of the late Buford and Opal Stinks Mealer. Mrs. Cawthon was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Eugene Cawthon; three sisters; three brothers; and one grandson.

She is survived by her husband, Claude Cawthon of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Linda Faye Pewitt of Russellville, Ky.; two sons, Charles Sandlin Cawthon of Phoenix, Ariz. and Doyle Gene Cawthon of Nashville; three sisters, Elsie Boswell of Tullahoma, Phoebie West of Normandy, and Florene McCallister of Fairview; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 18, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Dr. Joseph Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.
