Homer "Daddy Doc" Zimmerle, 90, of Chapel Hill, died Thursday morning, July 14, 2011, in Lewisburg.
Mr. Zimmerle was born in Davidson County, and was a son of the late Louis William and Chloe Redding Zimmerle. He served in the United States Army during World War II and retired after 20 years of service with AVCO Industries of Nashville. Mr. Zimmerle attended the Chapel Hill Church of Christ and was a member of the Chapel Hill Senior Citizens.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Arvizine "Mama Arv" Zimmerle, who died in 1997; daughter, Chloe Nichols; sons, Chip Zimmerle and Phillip Zimmerle; stepson, Phil McElhaney; sister, Lorene Blunckall; brother, Charles Zimmerle; grandchildren, Tammy Nichols and Scott Zimmerle; and daughter-in-law, Reba Zimmerle.
Mr. Zimmerle is survived by his wife, Dot Bills Zimmerle of Chapel Hill; daughters, Pat (Dan) Cody of Bunell, Fla. and Kim Zimmerle of Chapel Hill; sons, Mike (Donna) Zimmerle of Chapel Hill and Dan (Lori) Zimmerle of Nashville; step-sons, Max (Donna) McElhaney, Ken McElhaney, Kenneth Bills, and Kevin Bills, all of Lewisburg; daughter-in-law, Rita Zimmerle of Bunell, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 16, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Zimmerle and Rev. Larry Chatman officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, were conducted on Saturday at Battle Creek Cemetery near Coopertown, Tenn.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
