Frances Amanda Rutledge Cater, 79, of Petersburg, passed away on Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
A native of Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Mary L. Jones and Andrew J. Murdock. She was a retired schoolteacher and was a member of the NAMI, ASPA and St. Jude's Children's Hospital and the Women's Homeless Shelter.
Mrs. Cater was preceded in death by her husbands, Winston Rutledge and Bain Cater; one son, Winston Rutledge Jr.; and a sister, Elizabeth Owen.
Survivors include two sisters, Margaret Adams of Fayetteville and Jean (Joel) Dyer of Fayetteville, and one brother, John (Mary Sue) Murdock of Petersburg. Several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
Graveside services for Mrs. Cater were conducted Thursday, Aug. 4, at Talley Cemetery in Petersburg.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill or The Kodiak Humane Society.
