Yard sale raises $1,250 for VFD
The Caney Spring Volunteer Fire Department "cleared $1,250" from its recent fundraiser, according to Marshall County Commissioner E.W. Hill, a leading officer with the department.
Millie Miller, proprietor of Celebration Inn on Nashville Highway in Lewisburg "was kind enough to let us use her lot" next to the Inn, Hill said about where the department held its yard sale.
CSVFD is raising money to build a fire hall for the truck it bought in recent months.
"We need $20,000 even before we start," Hill said.
Meanwhile, the department's direct mail appeal continues.
"We have sent a letter out to everybody in our district and money is coming in from that," Hill said last week when the donations were at about $2,500.
The department's treasury is about $8,000 with $3,750 coming from both fundraising efforts.
As for construction of the fire hall, Hill said he thinks that rock for the base and concrete for the slab could come as a result of community-spirited businesses.
Construction might be possible this fall. It would be on land the department received as a gift. It's next to Breeze In Market in Caney Spring.
