Carrie Bell Pleas-Jones, 66, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011.
Mrs. Jones was the daughter of Nancy Jenkins and the late William Jenkins. She was a native of Memphis, where she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1963. Mrs. Jones was a resident of Lewisburg for the past 26 years and an active member of Allen Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she served as a trustee, stewardess and president of the Cora Wakefield Women's Missionary Society. She was also a long-term employee of Wal-Mart in Lewisburg, having retired on Aug. 4, 2011, after 23 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Jenkins, and two sisters, Betty Ann (Marvell) Spears and Betty Ann Gavin.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Dolphus Jones Jr.; two sons, Kevin (Angela) Pleas and Kory (Chasity) Pleas; one daughter, Kimberly (Keith) Hamilton; four grandsons, Kentral Pleas, Kevin Pleas Jr., Keith Hamilton II, and Kacy Pleas; five granddaughters, Keonna Pleas, Kia Hamilton, Kara Pleas, Kyler Hamilton, and Monique Pleas; four brothers, William (Makita) Jenkins, Marvell Jenkins, Milton Ivy, and Willie Gavin; four sisters, Della (Columbus) Thedford, Alley Fay (James), Mary Goode, and Carolyn Wilson; mother-in-law, Ruby Jones; two brothers-in-law, Chriss (Rose) Jones and Eary (JoAnn) Jones; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The family visitation will take place at Allen Bethel A.M.E. Church, 320 Haynes Street, Lewisburg, from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20.
The Family Hour will commence at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. at Allen Bethel A.M.E. Church, with Reverend Tyronda Howse Burgess officiating.
Burial will take place Monday, Aug. 22, at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis.
