Lewisburg's aquatics director has been selected to lead the city Recreation Department.
James E. (Jimmy) Stitt was promoted by City Manager David Orr to succeed Guy Chambers who will retire Sept. 30 after 25 years as Recreation Department director.
"Stitt will assume his new duties on Oct. 1," Orr said in a prepared statement.
His annual salary as department director will be $47,500.
Stitt, 33, has been employed by the city since 2003. He's a former Marshall County commissioner who decided against running for re-election as he and his wife, Jamie, have a growing family. Jamie Stitt was recently promoted to be the Southern Middle Tennessee regional director with the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. Previously, she was the department's Three-Star Director.
The Stitts have two children and attend First United Methodist Church in Lewisburg.
The city's next recreation director is a graduate of Forrest High School. He's a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin where he had a triple major in mathematics, history and education. He earned his master of science degree in sports and recreation from Illinois State University.
