Band of Blue's busy schedule brings awards
After taking a week off to host The Middle Tennessee Small Band Championship, the Forrest Rocket Band of Blue competed at the 19th Annual "Tennessee Valley Invitational Marching Contest" on Saturday in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
This was the third consecutive year that the band made the two and a half hour trek to the competition, hosted by Muscle Shoals High School Trojan Marching Band.
There was thirty-four bands competing at the contest and the Rocket Band of Blue came back home with several awards, including a superior rating in Band, Percussion, Field Commander, and Guard.
Band Director Billy Bateman's talented troupe won the 1st place in class award, 1st place percussion in class award, and finished 4th place overall.
The band also competed in the 26th Annual Blue Devil Invitational at Lebanon High School on October 1.The Blue Devil Invitational was host to thirty-one high school marching bands.
After a brief interruption due to the Music City Star Commuter train passing by the competition field, the band performed their show "Ka".
They received 1st place in their class and placed 3rd overall at the event.
These were two very successful competitions for the Rocket Band of Blue, who will head to Glencliff in Nashville on October 22 and then the big one, the State Division I Championship Competition at Riverdale High School on October 29.
