Band of Blue ends season with third place at state championship
With hundreds of hours of dedication and hard work behind them, the Rocket Band of Blue ended the season by capturing third place in the 34th Annual Tennessee Division I State Marching Band Championship at Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro on Saturday.
The band's 2011 season began with a week long band camp in late July at the Dubose Conference Center in Monteagle and after their return, they presented a performance of their new show Cirque du Soleil "KA" with musicals selections of Opener, Flight, Pursuit, and Battlefield for family and friends.
The journey to the state competition was in the beginning stages as Band Director Billy Bateman's troupe set out on a grueling itinerary.
The young group of talented individuals dedicated their Friday nights to support the Rockets' football team and all day on Saturdays for the past two months, the Band of Blue went on the road to display their talents and perfect their show.
Their awards and accolades they earned along the way was a monument to their dedication.
The Band of Blue travelled to competitions from Kentucky to Alabama during the season and came away with a lot of hardware and pride in what they had accomplished.
The band racked up Superior Ratings at all the competitions with six 1st place in class trophies, two 1st place color guard trophies, three 1st place percussion trophies, a 2nd and 3rd place field commander trophy, and two sweepstakes trophies. The band has ranked no lower than 5th place at any of the competitions throughout the season.
On Saturday, at Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, the band's hard work came to a culmination at the state championships, beginning with a preliminary competition at 2:30 in the afternoon.
The preliminary portion of the championship had twenty-eight bands competing with only ten advancing to the finals.
The Band of Blue made it through with a stunning performance and at 7:00 p.m., they set out on their final competitive performance of the season with the state title on the line.
After an amazing performance, the band marched off the field in anticipation of the awards ceremony and the Band of Blue received Superior Ratings in Music, Field Commander, and Color Guard.
They also earned Excellent Ratings for Percussion and were presented the award for Highest Music Score in preliminary competition.
After the announcement of the awards for the finals competition, Forrest ended up with a third place finish, behind Goodpasture and Adamsville.
Congratulations on a job well done.
The band will be continuing to support the Rocket Football team as they head into the playoffs this week at the "Rock".
