Region success sends Forrest Cross Country girls to state

The Forrest girls cross country team, from left, Jessica Harmon, Lupita Reyes, Ivy Donley, Ashley Kincade, and Brianna Mackie placed third at the region tournament and earned a spot in the state tournament this Saturday in Nashville.

The Forrest Cross Country program hosted sixteen schools at the Region 6A-AA Cross Country Championship on Thursday, October 27 at Henry Horton State Park on Saturday.

The Forrest Lady Rockets, consisting of Ivy Donley (MCHS), Jessica Harmon, Brianna Mackie, Lupita Reyes, and Ashley Kincaid ran their way to an impressive third place finish and a berth in the TSSAA Class A/AA State Cross Country Championship on November 5 at Percy Warner State Park.

Placing individually in the championship were Donley (12th in Girls' Varsity), Nolan Farris (14th in Boys' Varsity), and Andrew Dyer (7th in Boys Junior Varsity).

Jill Bibb and David Haston from Forrest coach the Cross Country teams.

Donley ran the course in 24:05:33, while Brianna Mackie finished in 17th (25:48:77), Lupita Reyes came home in 30th at (27:45:14), Ashley Kincade ended up in 49th place (33:29:36), and Jessica Harmon was right behind Kincade in 31st place (3:31:61) to round out the Forrest team score.

Fairview won the event and MTCS finished second, while Kailey Schuyler won the individual portion with a time of 20:33:31 in the 5,000-meter run.

On the boys' side of the region, Page was first, MTCS 2nd, and Columbia Academy 3rd.

The Forrest boys finished in seventh place at the event.
