James Franklin Matney, 85, of Lewisburg, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, in NHC Lewisburg.
Mr. Matney was a native of Marshall County, and son of the late Albert and Grace Curtis Matney. He served his country in France as a military policeman during World War II. He retired from Heil-Quaker Corporation where he was employed in quality control. He was a member of Lewisburg First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mable Holbert Matney; sister, Dorothy Mercer; and brother, Jesse Matney.
He is survived by one sister, Ruth Scott of Chapel Hill; five nieces and nephews which he and his wife raised, Karen (Ike) Johnson of Soddy-Daisy, Benita (Hal) Villines of Spring Hill, Geneva Canada of Mt. Juliet, Michael (Marilyn) Walker and Joe (Arlene) Walker of Lewisburg. Other nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, also survive.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Nov. 13, from the chapel of London Funeral Home, followed by burial in Lone Oak Cemetery with military honors.
