CHAPEL HILL - A crossing guard's sign was accidentally struck by a motorist Monday morning in front of Chapel Hill Elementary School.
Patty Taylor was standing on the yellow line in the middle of the road outside Chapel Hill Elementary School, directing traffic, when her sign was struck by the windshield of a 1994 Oldsmobile driven by Christopher Carter, 31, of Scenic Drive, Lewisburg.
He was "on his way to work," according to Chapel Hill Police Chief Jackie King.
Taylor "sprained her wrist," King said. She was able to finish the morning shift, and also worked Monday afternoon.
According to King, Taylor told Carter to "go on," but advised him to slow down.
"No tickets were written," King said. "If we charged him with anything, it would be leaving the scene of an accident. Taylor can press charges if she wants to."
