William Allen "Bill" Wise, 87, of Hickory Street, Albertville, Ala., died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2011, at Marshall Medical Center South.
Mr. Wise was born near Lewisburg on Dec. 31, 1924. He was drafted into the Army while still in high school in 1943. He became a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne division and was injured in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. After 13 months of hospitalization he was discharged from the Army, returned to Lewisburg, and married Catherine Moore. He worked with his father in training Tennessee Walking Horses until he began work for Dixie Grain Company in Shelbyville. He was transferred to Albertville in 1958 and became plant manager at Dixie Home Feeds. After his wife's death in 1992 he married Sarah Ridgway. He was an active member of North Broad Street Church of Christ in Albertville where he served for many years as an elder.
Mr. Wise is survived by his wife, Sarah Ridgway Wise of Albertville; sons and daughters-in-Law, David and Susan Wise of Albertville and Danny and Janiece Wise of Nashville; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Frank Hughes of Guntersville; stepsons and daughters-in-law, David and Marilyn Ridgway of Huntsville and Paul and Christie Ridgway of Albertville; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Feb. 12, at the North Broad Street Church of Christ, with Jerry Culvertson and Seth Terrell officiating. Interment followed in Memory Hill Cemetery.
McRae Funeral Home of Boaz, Ala. was in charge of the arrangements.
