Applications for $5,000 scholarships from Waste Management are available now to Marshall County graduating seniors enrolling at Columbia State Community College for the fall semester.

"The Waste Management Leadership Scholarship provides a significant contribution to educational opportunities for local Marshall County students who desire to seek further education through Columbia State Community College," Lewisburg campus director Elizabeth McDow said.

In an agreement with Marshall County, Waste Management provides scholarships funded by Cedar Ridge Landfill, Inc.

"Submission deadline for scholarship applications is March 15," Columbia State's advancement executive Bethany Lay said. Three scholarships are offered, one to a graduate of each of the county's high schools.

The process includes completing an application and submission of an essay on a specific topic.

"A committee will recommend recipients for award per scholarship criteria," CSCC spokeswoman Jolina St. Pierre said.

Applications are available from the guidance counselors at Marshall County, Cornersville and Forrest high schools, and CSCC's Lewisburg campus. For more, go to www.columbiastate.edu, or call 359-0351.
