John M. "Bud" Thomas Jr., 76, of Lewisburg, died Friday, March 2, 2012, in Columbia. Mr. Thomas was born in Maury County and was a son of the late Mattie Polk Leonard Thomas and John Morgan Thomas Sr. He was a retired Tennessee Walking Horse trainer, and for many years, was a vending attendant for Russell Catering Service. Mr. Thomas was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lewisburg and a member of the Marshall County Horseman's Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Alice Ervin.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of 44 years, Edwina Lamb Thomas of Lewisburg; son and daughter-in-law, Morgan and Julie B. Thomas of Lewisburg; grandson, John Morgan Thomas IV of Lewisburg; sisters, Ara McCaleb of Linden and Dot Mullins of Lebanon; brother, Ralph "Dooney" Thomas of Lewisburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 4, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Eason and Rev. Claude McMillion officiating. Burial followed in Lone Oak Cemetery in Lewisburg.
Dave Hunter, Bruce Hawkins, Wayne Dean, Kenneth Carr, Michael Ervin and Doug Cheek served as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lewisburg Restoration Fund, 122 Second Avenue North, Lewisburg, TN 37091.
