Bike race returning to Berlin
From staff reports
BERLIN - The 3rd Annual Hell of the South bike race will be on March 31, starting and ending at the volunteer fire hall here.
Hundreds of cyclists, observers, friends and associates have attended the previous two bike races here. They've been dubbed Hell of the South because the race is modeled after the Paris to Roubaix Spring Classic in France. That race is known as the "Hell of the North" because it's difficult.
"The starting and finish point will once again be the Berlin Fire Hall," Fire Chief Joe Greer said this week. "The Berlin Fire Department is not the host of the event. We are simply the 'facility' being used to stage for the races.
"The bike club makes a donation to the fire department and we sell concessions," Greer said.
Marshall Bassett of the Crieve Hall area of Nashville is the race director.
