From staff reports

The Liggett Street Church of God is holding a special service 10 days from today to reflect the gratitude of a congregation for an elder's lifetime of work for the Lord.

"An appreciation service for Elder Roy B. O'Neal will be held Saturday, May 19 at 6 p.m. in the church at 834 Liggett St.," church spokeswoman Karen Olayinka has announced.

"Former coworkers, family members and church leaders and laity will gather to sing praises to the Lord and give God the glory for using Elder O'Neal as an effective ambassador for Christ," Olayinka said.

"Elder Roy Bernard O'Neal, associate minister of the Liggett St. Church of God, epitomizes love in action as he has spent a lifetime working to be the man, husband, father and friend the Lord would have him to be," Olayinka said. "The Liggett Street Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Eddie Shirley will take time to tell Elder Roy O'Neal just how much his love has changed our church, our lives and our community for the better.

"Elder O'Neal keeps on pushing in spite of pain and family hardships. He thinks of others before he thinks of himself," Pastor Shirley said. "I know without a doubt that Elder O'Neal loves me and this church and we are better because he is in our presence."
