Marshall County schools reopen in less than a month, although teachers have already been making plans for the 2012-13 school year.
The first day of school, Tuesday, Aug. 7, is an abbreviated day. It starts at the regular hour, but will end at 11:30 a.m. School bus service will be available on that first day, albeit an abbreviated day.
"We just want to get the word out so students and parents could be prepared, since this will be counted as an attendance day," system administrators announced on Monday.
The length of the abbreviated day had been approved to end at 9:30 a.m., and buses weren't going to be providing transportation for students. That plan from Feb. 9 was changed June 14.
The abbreviated day was made two hours longer "to allow more time to give out schedules and possibly run through a 'day,'" administrators said.
