General Motors' plant at Spring Hill is adding 70 new employees this week, according to news reports.
Meanwhile, because of the pending closure of a General Motors plant at Shreveport, La., unionized workers are moving to jobs at GM's plant at Spring Hill.
Quoting Chapel Hill resident Mike Herron as chairman of United Auto Workers Local 1853, the Columbia Daily Herald reported that in the last 30 days eight skilled workers had moved from Shreveport to Spring Hill. Another 17 skilled workers are to fill openings there.
GM's Shreveport plant is closing next month as a result of a 2009 reorganization plan for the automaker, the Herald reported.
The 70 new employees hired this week are to help production of the Chevy Equinox, the Maury County newspaper said.
