Rocket Golfers finish second in four-way match
The Forrest Rocket golf teams, competing in their sixth match of the young season, took second place in the boys' event and the girls finished third on Tuesday at Henry Horton State Park.
The Forrest boys (3-3) played in a four-team match and finished with a combined score of 183, 25 shots behind the reigning region champion Cascade squad.
Eagleville took third with a 191 score, while Middle Tennessee Christian School came home in fourth with a 198.
Forrest's Blake Tansil led the Rockets with a one-over-par 37 at the Buford Ellington Golf Course, while Gary Lukonen finished second, shooting a 41, Austin Nichols carded a 51, Ty Hoeft was next with 54 strokes, Hawken King also came to the clubhouse with a 54 and Brennan Huff rounded out the Rocket scoring with a 58.
First year Rocket head coach Kyle Stacey said about the boys' effort, "Blake Tansil is leading the team and has been very consistent, freshman Gary Lukonen has really stepped up and is playing well, Austin Nichols, Ty Hoeft and Hawken King continue to battle for the 3, 4, and 5 spots, while new golfers Brennan Huff, Tim Elliott, and Robert Garcia are improving daily."
Cascade's top trio of Jake Pimental, Tyler Huff and Bryce Clinton led the Champion duffers with a three-over par 39s, Lucas Dunnivant netted a 41, Mason Brewer shot 44, and Tanner Burks carded a 45.
Eagleville was led by Dakota Beech's 46, Luke Davenport was one shot back of Beech with a 47, Vince Zucco was next with a 48, Joel Duke shot 50, Ransom McRee 55, and Dylan Thigpen came home with a 56.
MTCS was led by Barron Corley, who shot 44, Ian Harper and Ben Brown carded identical 51s, Joe Warner signed for a 52 and Trey Lashlee ended up with 55 strokes on the day.
On the Forrest girls' (2-3) side, Eagleville's Brooklyn Snell carded the low round of the match, coming home in 44 strokes and Nicole Duke shot 55 for a 98 stroke winning total.
Cascade was second with Shana Schnider shooting 49, one stroke clear of teammate Allison Massey.
Forrest's Dani Hoeft netted a 60 and Alyssa Elliott signed for a 68.
"Our eighth-grader Dani Hoeft has been consistently the No. 1 player so far and returners Alyssa Elliott and Caitlin Burt continue to improve with each match," said Stacey. "Also, freshman Maria Harris has promising potential and senior Misty Martin is improving daily."
