Rocket golfers squeak by district rivals

The Forrest Rockets took to the links at the perfectly manicured Buford Ellington Golf Course inside Henry Horton State Park on Tuesday and the three-way match went down to the wire as the Chapel Hill duffers won by the narrowest of margins.

Forrest posted a 188 cumulative score, while Community and Eagleville both finished one shot back of the Rockets at189.

Once again, it was senior Blake Tansil leading the way with a four over par 40 on the 3,259 yard front nine portion of the course.

Forrest's Dani Hoeft led the Lady Rockets in scoring with a 58 Tuesday at Henry Horton State Park.

Gary Lukonen was second for the Rockets, posting a 43, Ty Hoeft was in the third spot with a 48 and Brennan Huff signed his scorecard for a 52 to round out the top four for Forrest.

Hawken King finished with 52 strokes, Austin Nichols and Wesley Stringfield needed 56 shots apiece, Robert Garcia used 59 strokes and Tim Elliott had a 70.

Eagleville's Dakota Beech was tops for the Rutherford County squad with a 46, Ransom McRee shot 47, Luke Davenport and Vince Zocco signed for identical 48's, Dylan Thigpen used up 52 strokes and Austin Hargrove rounded out the Eagles' scoring with a 53.

The Vikings' Zack West won low medalist for the event with a clean two-over par 38, Jake Garrette was six shots back of his teammate with a 44, Dillon West had a 50, Noland Wisener carded a 57 and Hunter Smithey signed for a 59 to round out the Community scoring.

On the girls' side, Eagleville won by a wide 21 stroke margin over the Lady Rockets with Brooklyn Snell leading the way with a 44, Nicole Duke was second for the Lady Eagles, posting a 53, Kayla Stiles needed 56 strokes, Jessie Pew had a 63 and Taylor Turnage carded a 65.

The Forrest ladies were led by Dani Hoeft's 58, while Caitlin Burt shot 60, Maria Harris netted a 62, Alyssa Elliott used 64 strokes and Misty Martin carded a 72 for the Lady Rockets.
