Page rolls past Tigerettes
On Thursday, the Marshall County Tigerettes (2-5-1, 1-3-1 District) suffered their second straight loss on the pitch when they fell 8-0 to a deep and talented Page Lady Patriot squad at home.
Having won the last seven District 11-A-AA titles, the Lady Patriots held a 2-0 lead late in the first half before scoring four goals in a span of 10 minutes to take a 6-0 advantage into the break. Page (4-4-1, 4-0 District) then found the back of the net two more times in the second half to cruise to their second straight victory.
The Lady Patriots dominated possession time and outshot MCHS 27-6 overall. Kelsey Wilkes spearheaded Page's offensive onslaught by scoring four goals and recording one assist. Madison Stremler also added two goals and an assist, while Brittany O-Hanson and Sierra Boes each tallied one goal with O-Hanson dishing out one assist. Chloe Mariea and Abby Menko registered two assists apiece for the Lady Patriots as well.
Olivia Shultz attempted three shots to pace the Tigerettes offensively, while Sophie Raffo and Callie Johnson took two and one shot respectively.
With senior goaltender Atlanta Ferguson unable to play due to a knee injury, Yesenia Equia filled in at goalie for Marshall County and finished with 15 saves.
The Lady Patriots jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when O-Hanson received a pass from Menko in the middle of the field and rifled a shot into the upper right hand corner of the net from the top of the box in the 6th minute.
Stremler then extended Page's lead to 2-0 in the 10th minute by firing a low, skidding shot past Equia after running down a pass from Wilkes in the middle of the field.
Marshall County held the Lady Patriots scoreless for the next 17 minutes, but Page hit the Tigerettes with a flurry of goals late in the first half to blow the game open.
After Wilkes lined a close range shot just inside the left post in the 27th minute, Stremler redirected a corner kick by O-Hanson into the back of the net in the 31st minute to make it 4-0.
Wilkes then scored on a breakaway in the 35th minute before ripping a 15-yard shot into the left hand corner of the net from the middle of the field in the 37th minute to give the Lady Patriots a 6-0 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, the Tigerettes best chance to get on the board came in the 66th minute when Shultz got behind the Lady Patriot defense on a breakaway, but Page's goalie blocked her shot to keep the shutout intact.
Boes then fired a shot into the right hand corner of the net in the 72nd minute before Wilkes blasted a long range shot past Equia in the 76th minute to cap the Lady Patriots' 8-0 win.
