William Newt Petty, 72, of Chapel Hill, lost his battle to cancer on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, in Lewisburg.
A native of the Farmington Community of Marshall County, Newt was a son of the late William Oscar "Bub" and Maggie Eldridge Petty. He was a member of Farmington Church of Christ and retired from Inter City Products of Lewisburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Ray "Chuck" Petty, and a brother, Royce Petty.
Mr. Petty is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lollie Walls Petty of Chapel Hill; one nephew, Terry (Pat) Petty of Tullahoma; two great-nephews, Brett (Stephanie) Petty of Tullahoma and Dann (Elisa) Petty of California; sisters-in-law, Virginia Moore of Jackson, Tenn., Betty Collins of Lewisburg, Sarah Morgan of Illinois, Gayle Braden of Pulaski, and Wanda Clark and Kay (Jackie) King, both of Chapel Hill; brothers-in-law, Gene (Sarah) Walls of Florida, Bill (Jean) Walls of the Rover Community, Vernon Walls, Jim (Brenda) Walls, and Jolly (Nancy) Walls Jr., all of Chapel Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Sept. 23, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Chatman officiating. Burial followed in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or the American Diabetes Association.
