Discovery Gymnastics back in action

The Columbia based Discovery Gymnastics compulsory teams have kicked off their 2012 competitive season with gymnasts competing at Level 3, Level 4, and Level 5 compulsory teams.

These girls are a very dedicated group and spend several hours every week and all year long practicing.

The Level 3 team gymnasts by age are Ainsley Howard (6), Brooklyn Hanson (7), Mackenzie Whitmire (7), Victoria Kirscht (8), Emma Barberi (9), Kiley Nutt (10), Mary Elise Lynch (10), and Cadi Webster (11).

The Level 4 team consists of Bayleigh Tosh (9), Grace Adams (10), and Carmen McMillan (10).

The Level 5 team also has Jillian White (8), Anna Burcham (11), and Kortney Cognevich (12).

The teams traveled to Knoxville in September to compete in the K-Town Showdown meet that welcomed 12 different gyms and over 80 gymnasts. All compulsory gymnasts competed on five different events including vault, bars, beam, floor, and all-around.

The Discovery Gymnastic teams had a great first showing at this meet. Listed below are some highlights from the meet that include top three finishes.

Level 3 awards went to, Mackenzie Whitmire (1st Beam, 3rd Floor, 3rd All-Around), Emma Barberi (2nd Vault, 3rd All-Around, and Victoria Kirscht (3rd Bars and Beam).

Level 4 awards went to, Carmen McMillan (1st Vault, 3rd on Floor, 3rd All-Around), Grace Adams (2nd Bars and 2nd All-Around), and Bayleigh Tosh (2nd Floor Exercise).

Level 5 winners were, Kortney Cognevich (2nd Vault) and Jillian White (3rd Vault).

In their second meet of the year, the gymnastic teams traveled to Gallatin to compete in the Master's Gym, "You're the One" meet against almost 200 gymnasts from around the state.

The Discovery teams had another great showing as the Level 3 team won first place in their division.

Several of the Level 3 girls captured individual medals in their age divisions, including Emma Barberi (2nd on bars and beam and 1st on floor and all-around), Mackenzie Whitmire (2nd on beam and floor, and 1st on bars and all-around), Ainsley Howard (3rd on floor and 2nd on vault, bars and all-around), Victoria Kirscht (2nd on bars, and 3rd on floor and all-around), Kiley Nutt (2nd on beam), and Mary Elise Lynch took 3rd place on vault.

The Level 4 team took 6th place in their session and also had some great individual results.

Carmen McMillan was awarded 1st place on vault, Bayleigh Tosh took 3rd place in the all-around, and Grace Adams received 1st place on beam, 3rd place on vault, and 2nd place on bars and all-around.

The Level 5 team also had an impressive showing and was awarded the 5th place team trophy.

In the level 5 individual events, Kortney Cognevich placed 2nd on vault and 3rd in the all-around, Anna Burcham placed 3rd on vault, and Jillian White took 3rd place on the vault and the floor exercise.

The Discovery gym teams will be continuing their season at Opryland Hotel for the Intrigue Invitational before returning to Gallatin for the Fall Festival.
