After taking a 17-16 lead into halftime, the Lady Bulldogs held a tenuous 25-23 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
CMS, however, was unable to hold onto the lead in the final period, as the Lady Knights used a 7-2 run to pull ahead 30-27 with 1:15 left before making three late defensive stands to take home the one-point victory.
"I'm disappointed with how we played tonight. We had too many turnovers at key times and missed too many easy shots underneath the basket," said CMS coach Joy McMasters. "We still had an opportunity to win at the end of the game, but couldn't get it done."
Power forward Samantha Prosser led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points, nine rebounds, and three steals, while Kennedy Wilson and Brooke Defoe added eight and seven points respectively with Wilson pulling down eight rebounds. Madison Hopkins and Aliyah Holder chipped in two points apiece for Cornersville as well with Hopkins recording five assists and four steals.
Kennedy Honey knocked down three treys and paced RCA with 13 points. Emma Campbell also added nine points for the Lady Knights, while Holly Gray, Ellie Hammons, Taylor Irwin, and Robin Phillips each had two points.
Cornersville inched out to an early 4-2 lead on a pair of baskets by Prosser, but RCA rattled off eight straight points to grab a 10-4 advantage late in the first quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs eventually got on track offensively and put together a 9-2 run with the help of four points from Wilson and a Defoe three to claim a 13-12 lead early in the second quarter.
After Honey buried a trey to put the Lady Knights up 15-13, Cornersville tallied the next four points thanks to a baseline jumper by Prosser and a Defoe layup to seize a 17-15 advantage late in the half prior to taking a 17-16 lead into the break.
In the third quarter, Wilson scored on an offensive put back to give the Lady Bulldogs a 19-16 advantage before the Lady Knights notched the next five points to pull ahead 21-19 midway through the stanza.
CMS closed the third period with a 6-2 spurt behind two free throws from Hopkins and baskets from Wilson and Prosser to take a 25-23 lead, but RCA outscored Cornersville 7-2 through the first 4:45 of the fourth to forge a 30-27 advantage.
After Prosser hit a short jumper to slice the deficit to 30-29 with :38 left, the Lady Bulldogs had three chances to take the lead in the waning moments of the contest.
Cornersville, however, was unable to cash in on those late opportunities, as the Lady Bulldogs missed a pair of short jumpers before Gray blocked an off balance layup attempt by Prosser as time expired to preserve the victory for the Lady Knights.
