Funeral services for Jerry Wayne Thornton, 70, of Petersburg, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Don Hudson and Bro. Ed Templeton officiating. Burial will follow in Wright's Cemetery.
Mr. Thornton passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 15, 2013, at his residence.
A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Odie B.Thornton and Gladys Bevels Thornton, who survives. Mr. Thornton retired from Teledyne after 43 years as maintenance tech, and was a member of the Fayetteville First Presbyterian Church. He loved restoring antique cars and horseback riding.
In addition to his father, Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Marie Fears.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara Endsley Thornton, son Richard (Pam) Thornton, daughter Becky (Red) Davis, grandchildren Dustin and Destiny Thornton, and Justin and Trent Davis, all of Petersburg; two sisters, Carol (Ed) Templeton of Knoxville and Patricia Ann (Lynn) Scott of Fayetteville; several nieces and nephews; and two aunts.
Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Higgins Funeral Home.
