Thomas Newton Burgess, 86, of Cornersville, died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 27, 2013, in NHC Lewisburg.

Mr. Burgess was a native of Marshall County, the son of the late Archie L. and Hettie H. Sanders Burgess. He was a member of the Church Street Church of Christ, and was a farmer and self-employed carpenter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, James Leslie Burgess; one brother, Bernard L. Burgess; and two sisters, Dorothy Collins and Mildred Cook.

He is survived by his wife, Joie L. Ingram Burgess; one son, Gary (Janice) Burgess of Lynnville; and three daughters, Claudia (Stanley) Davis of Ardmore, Ala., Sharon (Roger) Dockery of Lewisburg, and Rhonda Woodward of Pulaski; and two sisters, Betty Tucker of Cornersville and Serena Wilkinson of Donelson. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kevin and Greg Davis, Amy and Megan Callaham, and Stacie Woodward (Josh) Allen.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 29, from the Church Street Church of Christ, followed by burial in New Hope Cemetery at Ostella.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church Street Church of Christ Library Fund.

London Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
