Lady Rockets end Florida trip with split
The Forrest Lady Rockets (6-1, 2-0) suffered their first loss of the season in a 4-2 setback to Trinity Christian Academy of Jacksonville in the second game of a twin bill Wednesday in Panama City, finishing their Florida trip with a 3-1 record.
In game one, the Lady Rockets built a 5-0 first inning lead with Savannah Brothers coming up with a big two-run single to go along with an RBI base hit by Kiyoko Puca and a run-scoring double from Liz Daughrity.
The Lady Conquerors stormed back to within one run at 5-4 in the bottom of the third as the Lady Rockets committed four errors in the frame.
Victoria Harper and Hannah Faulk came up with base knocks in the rally, while Conquerors' starting pitcher Heather Cunningham drove home one with a single to left field.
Forrest got two runs back in the bottom of the inning on RBI base knocks by Kaitlin Toombs and Jessica Harmon to make it a 7-4 ballgame.
That was enough for Katie Warrick in the circle as the big righty held Trinity Christian in check the remainder of the contest for the victory.
Warrick went the full seven innings, giving up four earned runs on seven hits to go along with two bases on balls and five strikeouts.
Darnell, Brothers, and Daughrity all had two hits in the contest, while Puca, Sara Jordan, and Toombs put up one base knock apiece.
In game two, the Lady Conquerors were victorious, making the most out their offense that had only four base hits to go along with four bases on balls in the 4-2 win.
The Lady Rockets broke out on top again as Darnell drew a one-out walk in the top of the first inning and came all the way around to score when Warrick scorched a line drive that went through the center fielder's legs.
Jordan started in the circle for Forrest and sailed through the first two innings and the Lady Rockets tacked on another run in the top of the third on a bases loaded RBI walk by freshman Amanda Patterson.
Jordan got into trouble in the bottom of the inning, giving up four runs as she issued three bases on balls to go along with three Trinity Christian hits.
Starting pitcher Colette Harper drove home one and Morgan Riner knocked in two for the Lady Conquerors in the go-ahead rally.
There was no scoring in the fourth inning as Forrest came up for their last at bat in the five-inning contest.
Down to their last out, the Lady Rockets did not quit as Daughrity drew a one out walk and Puca singled, bringing the go-ahead run to the plate, but Collette Harper slammed the door shut on a game ending strikeout.
Puca went 2-2 in the contest, while Darnell (two runs scored), Harmon, Warrick, and Brothers all had one base hit apiece.
Jordan gave up three earned runs on four hits, while walking four and striking out six Trinity Christian batters.
Forrest will make a road trips Huntland and MTCS on Tuesday and Thursday respectively, while sandwiching a day game at home versus Eagleville on Wednesday.
