Rocket Band of Blue wins $5,000 contest
From Staff Reports
A $5,000 check was presented to Forrest School, and specifically the Rocket Band of Blue, at a pep rally in the school gym Thursday morning.
The check was the top prize in the Muve in Schools contest sponsored by Cricket Wireless, 102.9 "The Buzz" and 102.5 "The Game."
The radio stations and Cricket Wireless invited high school bands or music programs to submit videos of them performing. Out of the videos received, 20 bands were chosen as finalists and their videos were posted on a website. Voting was held from Feb. 11 to 24 and the band with the most votes won.
The Band of Blue's entry was a video of the band performing in the school gym on Nov 2, 2012, when they gave their 2012 Swan Lake show for the last time and presented the trophies they won during the 2012 marching season to the school.
Winning $5,000 will not cause the band to abandon any of their usual fundraising efforts, said Band Boosters President Cathy Marino. Instead, she wrote in an email, "The Band Boosters are looking at using part of the money to fund a trip for the band to march/play in Disney World as other schools in the area have done."
