Jared Parsons shot a one over par 73 on Saturday before backing it up with a two-under par 70 to claim the 2013 Saddle Creek Men's Golf Association title.

After 18 holes on Saturday, Parsons was tied with Brian Borton as both zero handicappers carded first round 73's.

Only five players turn in scorecards with rounds in the 70's.

Under 80

Defending champion Joe Liggett (74), 2010 champion Mike Tankersley (75), and Roger Harwell (78) were the three other golfers that managed to come in with less than 80 strokes on Saturday.

Parson held firm on Sunday, playing magnificently as some high winds played havoc on the field of 26 MGA members that participated in the event.

Borton hung tough, but is one-under par round of 71 was just one shot shy of forcing a playoff with Parsons.

Liggett ended up third, shooting an even par round of 72 on Sunday, while Mike Tankersley finished fourth, and two-time MCHS state champion Joey Morefield carded a 77 on to round out the top five in the gross division.

In net play, using U.S.G.A. handicaps, Harwell (143) snared the title by four shots over second place finisher Barry White (147).

Anthony Puca (149) took third place on a match of cards, while Ricky "Goose" Sweeney (149) was fourth, and Buddy Tankersley (149) came home in fifth place.

Closest to pin

Chuck Forbis won two closest to the pin prizes on Saturday, knocking it stiff on the Par 3 5th hole and then came within a couple of feet of the flag on the Par 3 17th.

Morefield also captured a pair of closest to the pins, both coming on Sunday, with the first close shot coming on the fifth hole and on No. 13, Moorefield hit a laser that snuggled up near the pin.

Mike Tankersley was the third player to double up, hitting the ball with precision on No. 13 on Saturday and on No. 17 on Sunday.

The other closest to the pin winners were Barry White on No. 7 in Saturday's first round, and on the final day,

Don Wilson came up with a great shot to earn the award on No. 7.

The MGA's next event is the always interesting 3-Club Tournament that will be held on July 28 before the season ending Summer Hummer, which has been moved to the weekend of August 24 and 25.
