The Forrest Rocket wrestling squad had a very busy week, beginning with a stellar third place finish at the Creekwood Invitational on Saturday.

"We wrestled well in the Creek Wood Tournament," said Forrest head coach Kyle Stacey. "There were several teams from our region at this tournament; however, everyone has a tendency to pick up their game around tournament time."

The Rockets accumulated 158 team points in the event, while second place Summit tallied 174.50 and the Independence Eagles took home top honors, posting a 187.50 score.

Eagleville finished in fourth place with 152.50 points and Sycamore wound up in fifth place with 128 points.

Forrest finished with a 27-21 overall match record as Tyler McClendon put up an undefeated 4-0 mark to earn medalist honors along with Jerry Jordan, Cage Hargrove, Jamie Boyce, CJ Monce, Ivan Wentzel and Dylan Pendley.

On Monday, Forrest took on Eagleville in a make-up match and the Rockets defeated the Eagles 47-36 with 36 of those points coming by forfeits.

The older guys wrestled against Eagleville and it was a very tough match with score not being a very good indicator of how good Eagleville is," said Stacey. "It was a very tight match and they forfeited six weight classes. Eagleville won six out of the eight matches that we actually wrestled. When you look at it from that prospective, they are tough."

Jamie Boyce. a five-year lettermen on the Forrest Wrestling team, stands with his parents on Senior Night.

The Rocket winners in the match were Jamie Boyce, who pinned Ryan Holt in the 182-pound weight class and McClendon, who won by a technical fall (18-2) over Griffin Dodd.

In a Junior Varsity bout versus Page, the Patriots came out on top 59-24.

The Forrest winners in the bout were Peyton Sisk (Forfeit), Hank Eddins (Pin), Billy Clanton (Pin), and Dylan Pendley (Pin).

"We wrestled our junior varsity guys against Page because we have already wrestled them (Page) three times," said Stacey. "It allowed us to get the younger guys some mat time."

After a split on Tuesday versus White House and the Tennessee School for the Blind, Forrest took the mat for the last time this season in Chapel Hill and were hoping for a big senior night match versus Cheatham County and Creekwood.

Senior night

The Rockets carried out the plan to perfection, coming up with a big 51-30 blasting over Cheatham County in the opening match.

The two teams were in a tough, close battle with Forrest leading 24-18 when Ivan Wentzel came up with a spirited 11-5 win that went the distance, garnering three points for the Rockets.

Tyler McClendon, who is having a dominant season, stands with his parents on Senior Night.

Chase Cornell got six points back for the Cubs over Clay Watson, making it a 27-24 contest before the Rockets surged as Jerry Jordan, Bryan Clanton, Boyce, and McClendon all won by consecutive pins, putting away Cheatham County.

After senior night festivities, the Rockets continued their stout performance, taking down a depleted Creekwood squad 58-24.

"Our seniors had a good night tonight," said Stacey. "We won both matches and also wrestled well as opposed to Monday night." "With the Regional Duals just around the corner, we hope to be wrestling better at that time."

The Region Duals begin on Jan. 23 in Eagleville as the Rockets hope to qualify as a team for the state tournament in Febuary.

"The region duals should be very interesting," said Stacey. "Any one of the six teams in the region could win. We are all evenly matched."
