Jean Foster Grissim

Jean Foster Grissim, 83, of Nashville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014.

Mrs. Grissim was born in Lewisburg on Oct. 6, 1930, to Paul W. and Saydie Powell Foster.

Mrs. Grissim attended Gulf Park College of Gulfport, Miss. and received her degree from Peabody Demonstrative School. She was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. Following Peabody, she became a secretary for Congressman Joe L. Evins. Upon returning to Nashville, Mrs. Grissim became an active member of the Nashville Bar Association Barrister's Club Auxiliary. She was a member of Woodmont Baptist Church and an avid calligrapher, gardener, and bridge player (relishing the camaraderie of her bridge partners).

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Joseph Michael Grissim.

She is survived by her sons, John Mitchell Grissim Jr. and Jeffrey Matthew Grissim; daughter, Jean Marie Grissim; sister, Marian Foster Dent; grandchildren, Anna Maria Grissim, John Foster Grissim, Garrett Michael Grissim, and Christopher Joseph "C.J." Grissim; and nephews, Paul Foster Dent and Douglas Bryan Dent.

A celebration of Mrs. Grissim's life was conducted Tuesday, Jan. 21, from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Dickerson officiating. Interment followed in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Paul Dent, Bryan Dent, Foster Grissim, Garrett Grissim, Christopher Joseph "C.J." Grissim, Jim Thompson, Colin Parker and Derrick Thomas served as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cheekwood Botanical Gardens, 1200 Forrest Park Drive, Nashville, TN 37205 or to the Health Center at Richland Place, 500 Elmington Avenue, Nashville, TN 37205.
