William Rufus Beard

William Rufus Beard, 70, of Petersburg, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2014, at his residence.

Mr. Beard was a native of Marshall County, and son of the late Claude William and Mable Lorene Fullerton Beard. He was a graduate of Petersburg High School, and served his country during the Vietnam era in the U.S. Army. He was retired as superintendent of Al-Tenn Steel of Franklin. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Evelyn Williams Beard of Petersburg; son, William Troy Beard of Petersburg; two daughters, Tracey Wynette Mitchell and Kimberly Ann Wright, both of Lewisburg; two sisters, Kay Lynn Talley and Mary Ellen Duncan, both of Petersburg; two brothers, Thomas Larry Beard and Robert Edward Beard, both of Petersburg; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, in New Hope Cemetery at Talley Station.

The family will be at London Funeral Home Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. for visitation.

London Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
