Susan Bender Ogle
Funeral services for Susan Bender Ogle were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, from East Commerce Baptist Church in Lewisburg, with Brother James Hickey officiating. Burial followed in Temple Cemetery.
Susan was born Sept. 1, 1954, to Don and Ardeth Chesmore Bender. She spent her childhood in Mobridge, S.D. During her high school years she worked after school and on weekends at Amundson's Boot and Saddlery Repair Shop.
She met, and later married, Ron Ogle on Sept. 1, 1985. They made their home in Livingston, Texas, before moving to Lewisburg where they lived for the remainder of their lives. They joined East Commerce Baptist Church in 1987, a decision Susan said was one of the best decisions she ever made. Ron helped with the Youth Department and Susan served in several positions and later served as chairman of the Sound Committee. When the storms of life came, as they often do, Susan always said her relationship with Christ and her church family helped her to weather them. Ron passed away after a lengthy illness in 1996 and Susan was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1999. It was the beginning of a long battle with many surgeries and treatments to follow as the cancer spread from one place to another. Through it all she said her faith sustained her and during times of remission she was able to encourage others who were going through the same thing. She remained positive through it all right up until cancer finally claimed her life on Feb. 8, 2014.
She is survived by her mother, Ardeth Bender of Lewisburg; three brothers, Donald Wayne Bender of Fairburn, S.D., Roger Bender of Lewisburg, and Terry Bender of Lake Park, Ga. Eight nieces and nephews, four great-nieces, and one great-great-niece also survive.
In addition to her husband, Ron Ogle, she was preceded in death by her father, Don Bender.
London Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
