The Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes (7-1) completed the regular season sweep of Spring Hill by defeating the Lady Generals 8-3 at home on Thursday afternoon.

Spring Hill hung tough for much of the contest and were locked in a 3-3 tie with LMS through the first four and a half innings of play.

The Tigerettes, however, pulled away from the Lady Generals down the stretch and pushed across five runs over the next two innings en route to recording their fifth straight victory.

Ten-hit splurge

Lewisburg first baseman Taylor Walls throws out Spring Hill's Renee Loera at first after fielding a groundball in the top of the sixth inning.

Bolstered by their late offensive surge, Lewisburg finished with 10 hits and seven walks against four Spring Hill pitchers. LMS starting hurler Brooklin Conger helped her own cause by going 3-for-4 with 4 RBI and run scored. Hannah Sheppard (2 RBI) and Taylor Walls tallied two hits apiece for the Tigerettes as well, while Alli Hobbs (1 RBI), Sydne Solomon, and Kathryn Donahue each had one hit.

Conger also went the distance in the circle to pick up her fourth win of the year, as she limited Spring Hill to just four hits and a walk in seven innings of work to go along with two strikeouts.

Abby Griggs went 2-for-3 with a run scored to pace the Lady Generals at the plate, while Gracie Willett (1 RBI) and Renee Loera notched one hit apiece. Spring Hill relief pitcher Lily Soverns suffered the loss after yielding three runs over three innings on five hits and two walks.

The Lady Generals took advantage of some shaky defense by the Tigerettes early on and scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning with the help of three LMS errors to grab a 1-0 lead.

Up by 1

Lewisburg quickly counterpunched and crossed home plate twice in the bottom of the first on the strength of two walks and a two-run single by Conger to seize a 2-1 advantage.

The Tigerettes stretched their lead to 3-1 in the third inning when Walls raced home on a RBI groundout by Hobbs after belting a leadoff double and advancing to third on a passed ball.

Spring Hill then tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth by pushing across two runs in the frame thanks to a leadoff single by Loera, a Griggs single, a RBI groundout by Soverns, and a Willett RBI single.

Soverns held LMS scoreless in the bottom of the fourth, but the Tigerettes conjured up some two-out magic in the fifth and plated two runs in the frame to take a 5-3 lead. After singling with two outs, Conger advanced to third on a bloop single by Hobbs while Hobbs reached second base on the throw. Sheppard then drove in both runners by lacing a two-run single into centerfield.

In charge

The Lady Generals had a chance to cut into the deficit in the top of the sixth when they put runners on first and second with two outs on a Griggs single and a walk by Soverns, but Conger retired Willett on a groundout to extinguish the threat.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lewisburg crossed home plate three more times with the aid of a two-out walk by Lexi Cashion, a single by Walls, a Spring Hill throwing error, a Solomon walk, and a two-run single by Conger to forge an 8-3 advantage.

Conger then retired the Lady Generals in order in the top of the seventh to wrap up the win for LMS.
