Lady Rockets take out MTCS in three innings
The Forrest Lady Rockets needed just three innings to defeat Middle Tennessee Christian School Tuesday night, run-ruling the Lady Cougars 16-0.
The game was scheduled to be played in Murfreesboro, but because of unplayable field conditions, the contest was moved to the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill.
Forrest banged out 11 hits in the game, while Samantha King picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Rockets, tossing two innings of no-hit ball.
Madison Curtis finished up the job in the third inning, giving up one infield hit, while striking out three Lady Cougars' batters.
Forrest batted first and they made the most of it, scoring six runs in the first inning with the big blowing coming off the bat of Liz "The Eraser" Daughrity, who belted a three-run shot.
The Lady Rockets added three more runs in the second inning via a towering three-run homerun by Sara Jordan, tying her for the team lead in long dingers with seven.
Forrest has belted 29 team homeruns on the season with Jordan and Katie Warrick tied with seven, while King has six long bombs, Daughrity and Jordan Yelensky have four apiece and Amanda Patterson has one.
King walked Kelsey Lester to begin the bottom of the second before retiring the next three Lady Cougars in order.
Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham pulled all of her starters except Jasmine Runk in the bottom of the second inning, but the youngsters continued the offensive onslaught, scoring seven times to make it a 16-0 ballgame.
Micayla Feller led off the frame with a base on balls and went to second on a passed ball before Brooke Paul knocked her in with an RBI base knock to right field.
Taylor Maupin reached on an MTCS error and Grace Thrasher walked to load the sacks full of Lady Rockets.
Paul and Maupin would score on consecutive passed balls and Madison Curtis drew a base on balls.
Rickee Gayle Carter and Runk followed with back-to-back RBI fielder's choices, while Emma Stacey beat out a bunt for a base hit and wound up on third base, where she scored from on a wild pitch.
Amanda Patterson walked to re-load the bases and she would eventually make it a 16-0 contest when she touched home plate on an RBI bunt single by Feller.
Curtis came to the circle in the bottom of the third and struck out the first two MTCS batters before Kayla Pickard came up with an infield single.
Curtis whiffed the next Lady Cougar, invoking the run-rule provision and sealing the victory for the Lady Rockets.
King (2-2, RBI, 2B), Jordan (2-2, 2RS, 4RBIs, HR), Lainey Mays (2-2, RS, RBI, 2SB) and Paul (2-2, RS, RBI) all had a pair of hits in the contest, while Daughrity (1-2, RS, 3RBIs, HR), Feller (1-1, 3RS, RBI, BB) and Stacey (1-1, 3RS) all had one base knock apiece for the Lady Rockets.
