Ardeth "Ardie" Bender, 86, of Lewisburg, died Saturday, April 26, 2014, at NHC Lewisburg.
Funeral services for Ardie were held at East Commerce Baptist Church on Monday, April 28, with Brother James Hickey officiating.
Pallbearers were Bryan Storey, Steve McPherson, Donnie Webb, Rick Roberts, Chris Cox, and Kevin McGehee.
Ardie was born Nov. 26, 1927, to Clifford and Opal Lanphear Chesmore in Mobridge, S.D. She attended school and grew up in Mobridge. She met and married Don Bender in 1945 and they made their home in Trail City and later in Mobridge. For most of her married life, she was a housewife, except for a couple of side ventures. She worked for Mobridge Livestock Auction in the office and later opened her own fabric store, Fashion Fabrics, a dream she had for years. Her health caused her to sell her store later on.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mobridge for many years. She served as a Sunday school teacher, kept the books for the budget committee, served on the hostess committee, and was active in the Women's Missionary Society.
She loved gardening and baking and enjoyed sharing her baked goods with the sick and the elderly. She served as a "Gray Lady" for 25 years at the Mobridge Care Center.
After Don's death in 1993, she moved to Lewisburg to be with her daughter. She joined East Commerce Baptist Church and served there as chairman of the hostess committee. She enjoyed her Sunday School class very much and made good friends. She loved her church and her church family both in Lewisburg and in Mobridge.
Ardie is survived by three sons, Wayne Bender of Fairburn, S.D., Roger Bender of Lewisburg, and Terry Bender of Lake Park, Ga. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Bender. Eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild also survive.
Mrs. Bender's body was shipped to Mobridge, S.D. for burial.
London Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
