McCollum found guilty of first-degree murder and arson

Heather Rogers McCollum, 24, was found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder and arson after a 10-day trial. She was accused of stabbing John H. Poteete to death on Aug. 14, 2012, and then setting the interior of his house on fire to cover up the crime. Her husband, Jason C. McCollum, 29, has also been charged in connection with the arson.

The jury returned their verdict before 10:30 p.m. Friday, courthouse sources said. McCollum will be sentenced June 13, and could be in prison for the rest of her life.
