Donald R. King, 86, of Brentwood, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2014.

He was born in Marshall County to the late Willie Emma and Guy King.

A graduate of Cornersville High School, he attended the University of Tennessee and was a licensed public accountant. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy. Mr. King was Commissioner of Revenue for Tennessee from 1963 to 1966. From 1966 until 1992 he was engaged in the insurance brokerage business. During this time period he held executive positions with Forrest Life Insurance Co. and Blair Follin Allen & Walker. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Synercon, Corroon & Black and Willis Corroon, where he was a chairman of the company Benefits and Specialty Sales Group.

He was an active member of the Brentwood United Methodist Church, Robert I. Moore class, and a member of the Brentwood Country Club. Donald was known as a man of integrity. He was a prudent man, loyal to his church family and faithful to his wife and family.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Ange Merrill Vanhooser.

He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Joanne Smith King; children, Denton King (Pat Allsbrook), Steven King (Kimberly Robinson), Donna King, Christopher King (Kathleen Sanders), Douglas King (Kimberly Adams); eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Cornell King of Cornersville; and nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Brentwood United Methodist Church with Bishop Robert Spain officiating.
