Sponsor a Pole announced in preparation for Independence Day

Friday, June 27, 2014

Lewisburg Mayor Jim Bingham is pleased to announce that plans are underway to place American flags on the Ellington Bypass from East Commerce Street to the intersection with Nashville Highway.

Veterans' groups, local businesses and civic clubs, as well as individual sponsors, are being asked to adopt a specific pole or poles. The cost to sponsor a pole is $120. Each sponsorship will pay for the purchase of two American flags, a flag staff, and the brackets to affix the flagstaff to a pole along the bypass.

The materials to be used for the display of the flags will be of the best quality. The brackets are made of heavy welded steel, for which Demumbreum Welding of Lewisburg has deeply discounted the purchase price. These brackets will replace the less durable cast brackets that were in place. Flags will be replaced as needed for wear and tear or damage. This is where the second flag comes into play as part of the sponsorship. For flag replacements after the second flag is used, the initial sponsor will be asked to buy another flag.

There are 32 poles on the route, some of which have already been adopted. If you want to sponsor a pole, please contact Mayor Jim Bingham at City Hall, (931) 359-1544, or Brad Medley at Lewisburg Electric System, (931) 359-2544, for further details.

Lewisburg Electric System has installed the new brackets and hopes to place the flags on Thursday, July 3.
