James F. Ragsdale, 79, of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, in Nashville.

Mr. Ragsdale was born in Marshall County, was a son of the late John Porter and Lela Mai Newcomb Ragsdale, and was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Maggie Smotherman, and by brothers, Clyde Ragsdale, Bill Ragsdale, J.L. Ragsdale and Tom "Leon" Ragsdale.

Mr. Ragsdale is survived by his wife, Carolyn Cook Ragsdale of Shelbyville; sons, Kenneth Ragsdale of Chapel Hill, Phillip (Becky) Ragsdale of Chapel Hill, Jeff (Teresa) Ragsdale of Chapel Hill, Shane Cook of Shelbyville, Jamie (Shannon) Ragsdale of Shelbyville, and Jonathan (Erica) Ragsdale of Shelbyville; sisters, Emma Lavern Ragsdale of Lewisburg and Louise Hargrove of Chapel Hill; brothers, Herman Ragsdale of the Laws Hill Community and Bobby Ragsdale of Lewisburg; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday, June 27, at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, from the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Chatman officiating.

Burial will follow in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.
