'Annie Get Your Gun' to open next week
The tempestuous and romantic love story of sharpshooters Annie Oakley and Frank Butler is coming to the Dixie Theatre as the Marshall County Community Theatre proudly presents "Annie Get Your Gun."
This Broadway classic has been called a show within a show, as the story is presented as the personal version of Col. Buffalo Bill Cody, owner and founder of the most famous Wild West Show on earth.
Just as anyone might expect from a Wild West Show, there will be cowboys and Indians, roustabouts, and some mighty fancy shooting. All the while, the audience is captivated as the love story between Annie and Frank unfolds, with all its trials, tribulations, twists, and turns.
This Irving Berlin musical has several show tunes audience members will easily recognize. Among them are "There's No Business Like Show Business," "I've Got the Sun in the Morning," and "Anything You Can Do."
"Irving Berlin's greatest achievement in the theatre," wrote the New York Post. "'Annie Get Your Gun' will always be a musical for the ages, one of the Broadway theatre's enduring triumphs."
Under the local director of Nancy Nave, along with musical director Rachel Jeter and choreographer Julie Plott, "Annie Get Your Gun" has a six-day run in Lewisburg scheduled for July 18 to 20 and 25 to 27. The Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7 p.m. while the two Sunday afternoon shows start at 2 p.m.
Tickets may be purchased online through Ticket Leap at www.dixietheatre.org. They will also be on sale daily at the box office from 3:30 to 5 p.m. daily, starting Monday, July 14. The box office opens one hour before each performance.
