The Marshall County Youth Baseball and Softball League is hosting the 2014 Babe Ruth 12U Boys Southeast Regional Tournament this week, beginning with a picnic at the Richard Cashion Sports Complex in Lewisburg on Tuesday afternoon.

There will be skills competition for the players after the picnic, including around the horn, accurate throw from center field, fastest around the bases, and a home run derby.

Lewisburg's Cali Stoltz will entertain the group at the picnic and opening ceremonies will commence on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. for the 12 teams that qualified for the tournament.

Along with the host Marshall County squad, three other Tennessee teams (Martin, Putnam County, and Bellevue) will participate.

The other teams representing the southeast region are Atlantic Beach and Palm Gardens from Florida, North Surry and West Raleigh from North Carolina, South Carolina's Mt. Pleasant squad, Buckhead, Georgia, Semmes, Alabama, and Winchester, Virginia.

West Raleigh and Bellevue will open up tournament play at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, while Marshall County will not take the field until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday when they host Winchester in the final game of opening night.

All 12 teams are guaranteed five pool games through Saturday before the first and second place teams from each of the American and National pools move to a single elimination bracket on Sunday.

Marshall County, who be in the National pool, will come back Thursday versus Palm Beach Gardens at 3:30, Friday at 10:30 a.m. versus West Raleigh and again on Friday at 6 p.m. versus Bellevue, before ending pool play on Saturday with a game versus Semmes at 3:30.
