Councilman Odie Whitehead Jr. has sold his house on 2nd Avenue North and moved out of the 3rd Ward. Since he no longer lives there, he cannot represent residents of the 3rd Ward as their councilman.

Mayor Jim Bingham was notified in writing, and regretfully accepted Whitehead's resignation, effective July 29.

"I would like to thank Councilman Whitehead for his years of service to the Council and to the City of Lewisburg," wrote Bingham. "He has served admirably as Council representative on the Airport, Cemetery, and Tree City Boards. We extend our very best wishes to Councilman Whitehead on any and all of his future endeavors."

Any resident of the 3rd Ward who would like to fill the vacancy is invited to submit their resume for review; the deadline is Aug. 15. Those who want to submit a resume should call City Recorder Pam Davis at (931) 359-1544 or email her at pam.davis@lewisburgtn.gov.

When asked why he decided to sell his house, Whitehead said it was just too big for him, and added he had been thinking of selling for some time.

He doesn't know what the buyers intend to do with the property, which is between a laundromat and a car lot on the west side of the street.

Whitehead's new home is smaller, and located in the 5th Ward, so his representative on the Council is Robin Minor.

"I've enjoyed it tremendously," said Whitehead of his years on the Council. "We have good people in the 3rd Ward."

When asked if he would consider returning to public office in the future, he said, "I never say 'never,' because it'll always make a liar of me. Time will tell."
