The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (0-3) are still searching for their first win of the season on the pitch after suffering a 3-1 loss to the Huntland Lady Hornets at home on Thursday afternoon.

Cornersville had beaten Huntland each of the last two years, but the Lady Hornets (1-3) turned the tables on CHS in Thursday's contest and held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half before tacking on two more goals in the second stanza to open up a 3-0 advantage.

First goal

The Lady Bulldogs then tallied their first goal of the season in the closing minutes of the contest to spoil Huntland's shutout bid.

Although Cornersville outshot the Lady Hornets 14-9 overall, the Lady Bulldogs continued to have trouble converting on their scoring chances.

Junior midfielder Anna Claire Foster fired seven shots on goal and recorded an assist to pace Cornersville offensively, while Autumn Sheroski, Suany Armijo, and Alexis Easterwood each took two shots with Sheroski scoring CHS' lone goal of the match. Moira Borne also attempted one shot for the Lady Bulldogs.

Carla Byrd, Maria Ibarra, and Jordan Morris each notched one goal to help lead the Lady Hornets to the victory.

Six saves

In net, Lady Bulldog goalie Hope Taylor finished with six saves, while Huntland goaltender Kaylee McLennan recorded seven saves.

After both teams struggled to create scoring chances early on, McLennan caught a pair of shots by Armijo and Foster in the 19th minute before Foster lined a direct kick just over the top post of the goal a few moments later.

Huntland nearly got on the board in the 21st minute, but saw a low, skidding shot by Courtney Frame bounce off the left post.

Taylor then made a pair of saves before the Lady Bulldogs failed to cash in on four scoring opportunities over the next 10 minutes.

Tie broken

The Lady Hornets finally snapped the scoreless tie with the help of a lucky break in the 39th minute. After Taylor collided with a Huntland player while going for a loose ball in front of the CHS goal, Byrd ran in and chipped a close range shot into the open net to give the Lady Hornets a 1-0 lead.

Huntland then opened up a 2-0 advantage midway through the second half when Ibarra scored on a breakaway before Morris curled a shot into the upper left hand corner of the net from the top of the goalie box in the 70th minute to stretch the Lady Hornet's lead to 3-0.
