7-0 Lady Rockets blitz Sycamore
The Forrest Lady Rockets came out on a mission Tuesday night in Chapel Hill, blitzing the Sycamore Lady War Eagles 8-2 to remain unbeaten on the season at 7-0.
"We didn't come out and strike hard last Thursday at Community, so we didn't want that to happen again," said Forrest coach Natalie Dennis. "I'm just so proud of these girls right now."
Forrest sits atop District 5A-AA with a crucial matchup Thursday night in Chapel Hill versus a Harpeth squad that knocked the Lady Rockets out of the district tournament last season.
A win versus the Lady Indians would give the Lady Rockets the number-one seed at the upcoming district tournament.
"That will be our biggest competition of the year, it will be a good game, just like Community," said Dennis. "We will be ready for it."
Forrest senior striker Cassie Septer recorded a hat trick in the contest and Septer started things off in a hurry for the Lady Rockets, taking a crossing pass from fellow senior Sierra Waggoner before depositing the ball into the Sycamore net, just a minute and half into the match.
Two minutes later, Waggoner and Septer hooked up again, making it 2-0 Lady Rockets at the 33:44 mark of the first half.
The Lady War Eagles could not even get the ball past the midfield stripe until the 10 minute mark, but their attack was short-lived as Forrest countered with another goal on a long distance shot by Brynn Colvin midway through the first half, making it three-nil.
The Lady Rockets remained relentless as the defense would not allow any type of offense for Sycamore and with 14:52 remaining in the first half, Waggoner knocked home a rebound, making it 4-0.
No backing down
Forrest would take their four-goal lead to the halftime break and the Lady Rockets would not be caught in a letdown as senior Sarah Blasingim knocked in a rebound with one minute gone in the second half, upping the score to 5-0.
Ten minutes later, Blasingim took a pretty crossing pass from Colvin and scored her eighth goal of the season, making it a 6-0 contest.
Colvin was on fire, juking her way past several Sycamore defenders before scoring an unassisted goal at the 31:19 mark of the second half to increase the blowout to 7-0.
Septer would finish the scoring to wear the hat for the Lady Rockets when she was in perfect position for a rebound goal with just over 26 minutes remaining in the game.
JVs step in
From there, Dennis would insert the majority of the junior varsity squad to finish up the game.
Sycamore would take advantage as Alyssa Pinkston and Gabby Vanlandingham scored late goals for the Lady War to cement the 8-2 final score.
"Our seniors came through tonight, they always make a difference," said Dennis. "And of course Brynn is always out there in the middle of everything."
Septer's three goals gave her 13 goals on the season and Colvin has 11 net finders and leads the squad in assists with 11, while Blasingim has recorded eight goals, Waggoner is next with five, Rickee Gayle Carter has scored twice this season, and Ladonna Stinson has one goal in her senior year.
